Branding the Oregon Coast Workshop (May 29, 2009)
On May 29, 2009 in Newport, Oregon at the Hallmark Resort, OCZMA held a "Branding Workshop" to explore the potential of marketing or branding the Oregon Coast as an ideal place for "lifestyle entrepreneurs" or knowledge workers". The workshop was a tremendous success. A number of knowlegeable people from up anddown the Oregon Coast attended. It was a great blend of folks—people skilled in tourism promotion and business development professionals.
The Oregon Business Development Department (OBDD), formerly the Oregon Economic & Community Develoment Department (OECDD); the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC), and the Lincoln County Economic Development Alliance (LCEDA) helped fund the workshop.
The workshop began with brief presentations about "branding"—what branding is, what makes a successful branding program. Workshop presentations were given by Kathy Long Holland, LongSherpa; John Irwin, J. Irwin Informatics Consulting; Todd Davidson, Chief Executive Officer, Travel Oregon; Jessica Metta, Gorge Technology Alliance (GTA); John Lavrakas, Lincoln County Technology Solutions Alliance; Bill Renfroe, Tri-Agency Economic Development Authority.
